The Women's Therapy Project
Northwest is a network of feminist mental health professionals
who are dedicated to promoting competent and ethical practice
through exchanging knowledge and skills, defining ethical
standards, exchanging resources and mutual support. Our members
represent diverse theoretical backgrounds but with a feminist
perspective.
The Women's Therapy Project
Northwest is open to therapists who define themselves as feminists
and subscribe to this organization’s Intent,
Purpose, and Code of Ethics. The structure of our organization
is cooperative, as it encourages member participation and
ownership in the ongoing function of the group. We welcome
new members whose credentials include any of the following:
 |
A. |
Holds a PhD in psychology or counseling,
PsyD, or MD with residency in psychiatry and holds the
appropriate licensure; or without licensure but functions
in private practice or agency setting and is supervised
by a licensed mental health professional or psychotherapist;
or
|
| |
B. |
Holds a Master’s degree in psychology, mental
health counseling, social work, pastoral counseling,
or mental health nurse practitioner, and holds the appropriate
licensure; or |
| |
C. |
Holds a Master’s degree in the above described
disciplines but without licensure and functions in a
private practice or agency setting and is supervised
by a licensed mental health professional or psychotherapist. |
Membership in the Women’s
Therapy Project Northwest is voluntary and those members have
agreed to abide by our Code of Ethics, but we do not have
a system within our organization which supervises members.
Moreover, the Women’s Therapy Project Northwest does
not endorse any of the therapists listed in this Directory,
as WTPNW has no way of evaluating members’ professional
competence. This evaluation of competency is determined by
various licensing boards. We encourage prospective clients
to decide which therapist best serves their needs (see our
"Find a Therapist"
page).
WTPNW hosts an informal networking
meeting in the Fall and especially welcomes new members or
potential new members at this event. Contact
WTPNW for date, time and location.
A Newsletter is published
twice a year by WTPNW. It contains informative articles on
mental health topics and provides a forum for subscribers’
concerns in this professional field, as well as a place to
advertise upcoming events, groups, workshops or office space.
